Can I use an alcohol-based surface sanitiser as a hand sanitiser?
While you can use a surface sanitiser on your hands, you will probably find your skin will dry out with repeated use as alcohol-based surface sanitisers have no skin moisturisers.
Also, some denaturing agents such as methanol are toxic by absorption through skin, so it is best to be aware what ingredients are in the surface sanitiser.
Most surface sanitisers are used as a spray, so you would need to use a lot more of this product to get the right amount of coverage. The liquid is also likely to run off quickly so you may not get the necessary dwell time for effective sanitation. Most hand sanitisers are applied with a gel or foam to combat this issue, meaning you use much less product to get adequate coverage, and they will reside on the hand long enough to work effectively.
One area where surface sanitisers work well for hand sanitising is when you need to sanitise your gloved hands during production. Since there is no skin contact required this is usually a faster and more effective way to keep the gloves sanitised.
